HOW MUCH DOES A HOLIDAY IN IRELAND COST?

Have you ever wondered about traveling to Ireland? Many people have family or friends there, but they do not treat this country as an attractive holiday destination. And this is a mistake, because Ireland is a beautiful land with breathtaking landscapes, fairy-tale castles, palaces and gardens, full of chilled and friendly inhabitants. It's hard to get the perfect weather on the island, though - a cool climate with frequent rainfalls and strong winds can ruin any summer day - but don't worry: clean, fresh air will encourage you to leave the house for sure. If you like to spend time in the nature, you love trekking in national parks and over the cliffs, you adore walking in deserted areas and driving on winding roads but of good quality, then you should get the plane tickets asap! What's more, the evergreen island is proud of its rich history related to, among others, the Vikings, and thus have a multitude of historical, well-preserved buildings. It is safe to say that Ireland is in a sense a foretaste of Norway or Iceland, or simply a cheaper alternative, although this direction is not at all the cheapest.

To show you the prices that apply in Ireland and to help you plan your holiday budget, I present below an exact list of expenses that I had during a week's trip to this country. I travelled during the long May weekend, so I had to pay higher price for the plane ticket. In addition, I tried to book cheaper accommodation options, although I did not save on every cup of coffee - I spend the money using common sense. The currency in Ireland is euro, different to for example England, where you pay in pounds. Please be aware that during the holiday season, prices increase slightly, especially in large cities, but you can count on the best (sunny) weather!

A week in ireland costed me: 760 euro

This price includes:

1. PLANE TICKET – 111 euro (Ryanair)

I booked the tickets three and a half weeks before departure. I could only take hand luggage, because I did not buy any additional options (no allocated space, entrance priority, main luggage, etc.). Check-in was possible for 4 days to 2 hours before departure. The hand baggage dimensions are: 1 piece of hand luggage (55 x 40 x 20 cm) + 1 handbag (35 x 20 x 20 cm) - always make sure to check the up-to-date dimensions, because they change like in a kaleidoscope.

TIP: The backpack as hand luggage is the best alternative - it will probably not be measured or weighed, and what's more, the service allows you to take it on board without any problems!

2. TRAVEL INSURANCE – 16 euro

I bought the insurance online in Generali a few days before the trip and chose a flexible package, i.e. I adjusted the amount of the refund eg the cost of treatment or stolen hand luggage.

TIP: It is important that the insured person at the time of insurance is in the country - then it is cheaper.

3. ACCOMMODATION – 496 euro / per room (248 euro / per person):

Monday to Tuesday – B&B in Tallow -> 65 euro / per room
Tuesday to Wednesday – guesthouse in Killarney -> 57,60 euro / per room (without breakfast - extra 10 euro)
Wednesday to Thursday – B&B in Tralee -> 59 euro / per room
Thursday to Friday – B&B in Letterfrack -> 70 euro / per room
Friday to Monday – AirBnB in Dublin -> 243 euro / per room for three nights

4. CAR RENTAL – 189 euro / four days

Rental company: Hertz (at the airport, without prior reservation). Car: Renault Kadjar, 1.6 diesel, The price included: full insurance + tire insurance, two drivers and unlimited kilometers.
A credit card is required, on which the total cost of car rental and the full tank cost have been secured. The car was refueled, it could be handed over with a full or empty tank (then the fuel cost was deducted from the credit card).
After handing over the car, you could pay for rental in cash, therefore the secured funds on the credit card were released.

5. MOTORWAYS – 14.80 euro

The motorway around Dublin M50 TOLL costs 3.10 euro one way. The rental company automatically calculates the costs through the sensor in the car, and the amount is charged from the credit card a few days after the car is handed over. On other highways you can pay in cash (by throwing the exact amount to a special coin-operated funnel, or pay in the window), or by debit or credit card. The usual price is 1.90 or 2.90 euros.

6. PETROL – 99 euro together

1 liter of diesel costed circa 1.29 euro.
We made 1390 km within four days and refueled the car twice.

7. FOOD AND DRINK – 180 euro / per person

Price examples:

2l bottle of water at the airport - 2.80 euro
2l bottle of water in the shop - 1.00 euro
coffee - from 2.50 up to 3.50 euro
pint of beer - from 3.50 euro
pint of Guinness in Dublin - from 5.40 up to 6.50 euro
one course meal ion restaurant - around 15.00 euro
soup of the day + sandwich in restaurant - 10.95 euro
1/2 sandwich in Subway - 4.50 euro
1l almond milk - 3.75 euro
4 cans of cider - 5.50 euro
bottle of wine - from 5.00 euro
cigarettes - 14.00 euro

8. TICKETS – 53 euro / per person

Not all attractions have to be paid for, for example, admission to the Connemara National Park is free of charge, but for most of them you actually have to pay for, even if they are monuments of nature.
Sample prices for an adult, without discounts:

admission fee to the Titanic Museum - 9.50 euro
admission fee to the Guinness Museum in Dublin - 25.00 euro
admission fee to the Cliffs of Moher - 8.00 euro
admission fee to the Cliffs of Kerry - 4.00 euro
